Plan Investing: Schwab Brokerage PCRA® Venue
Chicago Blower Corporation Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plans
Schwab's Personal Choice Retirement Account® (PCRA®) is a self-directed brokerage account offered through Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. With the Schwab PCRA®, you can build a portfolio from a wide selection of mutual funds offered by various investment companies. You also may invest in individual securities (e.g., stocks, bonds, CD's) through the Schwab PCRA®.
However, though the Plans assess no additional administrative fee for you to initiate or maintain a PCRA® in your Plan account, you are responsible for all costs incurred within your PCRA® including but not limited to transaction fees, commissions, fund redemption fees, etc. Also, transfers you request back to your Vanguard Funds Venue account incur a $20 wire transfer fee that's deducted from your Schwab account and paid to Schwab. In short, be sure to consider all aspects of investing your Plan account in a Schwab PCRA®. Though they offer substantial flexibility, a PCRA® is not the most appropriate investing venue for every participant. Please do yourself a favor and read this section in full before you decide to begin the application process to open a Schwab PCRA® in the Plan.
Participants in the Chicago Blower Corporation Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plans may open a Schwab PCRA® by coordinating their request with the Plan's Third-Party Plan Administrator ("TPA"), Compensation & Capital Administrative Services, Inc. ([email protected]). The TPA maintains ultimate authority for approval of your request to open a Schwab PCRA® in the Plan. This determination is based upon the TPA's acceptance of your level of investment management knowledge as appropriate to operate in a constructive manner within this highly risk-oriented investing environment.
There are two ways to deposit contributions or existing Plan account balance into your Schwab PCRA®:
- Automatic payroll contributions - you can contribute money (your weekly or bi-weekly payroll 401(k) salary deferral, rollover or annual profit sharing contributions from CBC) to your Schwab PCRA®.
- Venue Transfers - you can transfer money into your Schwab PCRA® from your Vanguard Funds Venue balance.
If you open a Schwab PCRA®, all money that is transferred from a Vanguard Plan Investing Venue account to your Schwab PCRA passes through the Schwab Bank Retirement Savings Account in your PCRA, which is set up when we open your Schwab PCRA®.
The mutual funds offered through the PCRA® are managed by professional investment managers engaged by the investment companies that distribute any mutual funds you purchase. However, it is up to you or your personal investment advisor to choose and monitor the appropriate investments for your personal situation and retirement strategy.
If you are considering the Schwab PCRA® first ask yourself these questions to determine if a Schwab PCRA® is right for you:
- Is my Plan account balance at least $10,000? (Minimum initial transfer-in amount to open a Schwab PCRA® in the Plans.)
- Am I looking for investment options other than those offered under the Plans' Vanguard Mutual Funds Venue fund alternatives?
- Do I have the time, sufficiently high level of investment management sophistication, and interest to play an active and successful role in managing my savings, such as researching, selecting, and monitoring my investment fund options and individual securities selections?
- Am I willing to incur additional costs in return for a broader range of investment choices?
If you answered "yes" to these questions, you should further investigate opening a Schwab PCRA by thoroughly reading this Schwab-published description:
If you answered "no" to most of these questions, you may want to further explore the Plans' Vanguard Funds Venue of mutual fund alternatives.
Plan participants with Schwab PCRA®'s can speak with a Schwab representative knowledgeable about Schwab PCRA®'s during normal business hours (9am to 7:30pm ET) by calling Schwab's PCRA® "Hotline" 888-393-7272. They can also access the Schwab.com website log-in page here.
